Are we getting the picture?

The Members said NO!

This happened even though management & the board knew the score going in; down 7 votes. So we got the 2 hour dog & pony show. The little guy won.

Young Boxer

We all endured a push by the board to get approval to go deeper in debt and possibly lose our club facilities and land unless serious changes to the thinking and business model are not made.

In the meantime, members are cutting family memberships, rental lockers are being cancelled, and paid parking spaces being eliminated. The rumble of members considering canceling their membership increases.

Is this all because our elected leaders continue to keep the club virtually shuttered up, guests banned, high costs for unnecessary staff, and create an inhospitable environment that keeps members from spending money?

Isn’t it time to start listening to members and stop pretending? Stop telling us that you care about members health, long term finances and damaging the club by not letting us use our club house.

  1. It’s difficult to know what comments are directed toward what comments, but I have served on many committees. The candidate who was DQ’d violated the rules 3 different times, and in her FB page rebuttal, mentions only the latest violation. There is more than one complainant and therefore not a one-off situation, or at least several people believe what she was doing was unfair. The rules may be stupid, but if all need to play by them, all need to play by them. If one cannot play by the rules (even if archaic), they should not be allowed to have a chance at governing the rest of us. All originally approved slate slate candidates were informed of the rules, and all agreed to them. Even after agreeing, and subsequent email warnings, she still violated. Once, maybe you forgive, twice, maybe a stern warning, but a third time? Seriously? This candidate is guilty of severe hubris and the latest post minimizing her actions and positioning herself as a martyr is ludicrous.

  3. In response to the candidate who was disqualified and their comments about one minor electioneering violation:

There were two other violations in addition to the one that was mentioned by this candidate on the MABT FB page. One post, was on September 30, after all candidates were warned not to do so, and definitely after an original slate member would have been informed of the rules. And, even before that, this candidate posted remarks relating to the EGM, the AGM, and TAC policy, an extremely egregious violation, and again, after being informed of the rules as an original slate nominee. This candidate also deleted this post relating to the EGM and AGM, so one could infer that known rules were being broken and therefore did so to hide the fact the post existed in the first place. If one cannot control one’s id, why should any of us allow them to have a chance at governing us? I would imagine there were many more complainants than just one. For once, it seems like committee members and BoG did the right thing…

  4. Dear Anonymous,
This post was written and reviewed by multiple members. Several of whom ARE currently serving, or have served at Tokyo American Club. We’re with you on saving the club otherwise there wouldn’t be so many people in this group and the private social media group.

Most posts are published under Editors, while others post under their login names you will notice. Hope that helps clear things for you.

  5. This is one of the most disappointing posts I’ve read on this site – talk about throwing rocks from a glass house. Why not get involved in meaningful ways, rather than use this bully pulpit to lob anonymous attacks against a group of people – it’s hardly just the Board – who are spending plenty of hours to keep the Club financially sound. The vote was for “insurance” in the event of continued challenges. God forbid that should now happen, I’m sure you’ll be the first in line to offer TAC a donation in keeping our beloved Club alive? I think not. It’s the same reason you aren’t sitting on committees and being part of the process. After all, it’s easier to quarterback from the sidelines than it is to be in the game. Shameful.
